The Letter Home

Wednesday 28th April, 1917.

 Dear Brother,

The war has not finished and I don’t think it will finish any time soon. I am deeply sorry that the war has not finished, when I said it would. Many of my colleagues have died and it appears that no one is winning the war.

Everywhere I go there is blood and dead bodies. I’m sorry to go into such detail, but it is horrible. There is no point for this war; it just makes the situation worse. We are running out of food and water and medical supplies. It will be a miracle if I survive. A bullet just whizzed past me, but I am not scared, what I am scared of is you. Are you ok? I am going to die, it is imminent. If I die remember me…….

Your brother Sam.
